I'm Jacqui and I'm a novel and short story writer.
I love researching and writing historical fiction, resulting in the publication of my debut novel 'The Sentinel' in 2020. You can read more about my book here.
I am also currently publishing my travel memoir, Pure Life, through my newsletter at Substack.com - you can subscribe for free at Substack.com/@jacquihodder or take out a paid subscription if you would like insights into my author process. Every paid subscription includes a donation on your behalf to help fund Sea Turtle Conservancy's vital research and conservation work in Miami, Costa Rica, and Panama.
I also love writing middle-grade and young adult fiction. I'm releasing a middle-grade speculative fiction novel for readers 8 - 12 in the next few months.
Other writing news:
Later, I'll be publishing my second historical fiction novel, The Lace Sisters which tells the story of Francesca Lacey and her great grandmother, Mary Lacey.
A trove of letters. A lace cross. A mother vanished.
Nottingham, UK, present day. Francesca Lacey unpacks years of secrets found in a trunk stashed in a false wall. Secrets that will reveal the truth of her mother's disappearance in Australia during the pandemic of 2019-2021. She travels to Australia to learn more, only to find deeper truths hidden in lace objects that trace a tapestry of lives back to her great-grandmother and two great aunts, the Lacey Sisters.
Nottingham, UK, 1935. Mary Lacey arrives in the heart of the lace district with secrets of her own, secrets she must keep at all costs. But those secrets are to have devastating consequences, secrets that ricochet down generations. As Mary and Francesca's lives converge, will the truth heal all or lead to more secrets?
Along with my novels and exciting future book writing plans, including an art fraud crime/historical fiction thriller, I am also a short story writer. I was very proud to be shortlisted for the Mornington Peninsula Mayor's Short Story Award competition. Prizewinners are announced this Wednesday (30 August).
Great to have you here!

Jacqui.
